1. Overview
Plain EnglishAutoUML is a free, AI-powered UML diagram tool. We do not require you to create an account. We do not collect your name, email, or personal information directly. We use Google Analytics (traffic monitoring) and Google AdSense (advertising) to keep the service free. This policy explains exactly how those services work.
AutoUML (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the website at https://autouml.com and the application at https://app.autouml.com. By using AutoUML, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information You Provide Directly
AutoUML requires no registration. We do not collect your name, email address, password, or personal profile data. If you email us at info@autouml.com, we receive only the email address and content you send.
2.2 Information Collected Automatically
Our third-party service providers automatically collect the following when you visit AutoUML:
- Device & Browser: Browser type and version, operating system, screen resolution, device type.
- Usage Data: Pages visited, time on page, navigation paths, and features used.
- Technical Data: IP address (anonymized), referring URL, approximate country-level location.
2.3 API Keys (BYOK)
API keys entered via the Bring Your Own Key feature are stored exclusively in your browser's local storage and are never transmitted to our servers. We have no access to them.
2.4 Diagram Content
Text descriptions you enter to generate diagrams may be sent to AI model providers (Google Gemini, OpenAI, or xAI Grok) to produce your diagram. AutoUML does not store diagram content on our servers after generation.
4. Google AdSense & Advertising
AutoUML uses Google AdSense, operated by Google LLC. Google AdSense may use cookies and similar technologies to:
- Serve advertisements based on your visits to AutoUML and other websites across the internet.
- Measure ad effectiveness and build interest-based profiles (when you consent to advertising cookies).

When you choose “Reject Restricted,” we signal this via Google Consent Mode v2 and only non-personalized ads may be shown. No interest-based profile is built without your consent.

5. Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how visitors use AutoUML. GA4 uses cookies to collect anonymous information about sessions, page views, device type, browser, and country-level location.
IP Anonymisation: We have configured GA4 to anonymize IP addresses. Full IP addresses are never stored.

6. How We Use Data
Automatically collected data is used to:
- Operate the Service: Deliver, maintain, and improve AutoUML features.
- Analytics: Understand feature usage to prioritize improvements.
- Advertising Revenue: Serve ads via Google AdSense to keep AutoUML free.
- Security: Detect and prevent abuse or fraudulent activity.
- Communication: Respond to enquiries sent to our email address.
We do not sell your data to third parties or use it for automated decision-making that significantly affects you.
7. Data Sharing & Third Parties
We share data with the following service providers, each governed by their own privacy policy:
- Google LLC — Analytics and Advertising. Google Privacy Policy
- AI Model Providers — Prompt text is sent to Gemini, OpenAI, or Grok when generating diagrams. If you use BYOK, your browser communicates directly with the provider.
- Hosting Providers — Cloud infrastructure providers may process server logs containing anonymized IP data.
We may disclose data if required by law or valid legal process.
8. Data Retention
AutoUML does not maintain user accounts and holds no personal profile data. Anonymous analytics data is retained in Google Analytics for up to 14 months per our GA4 configuration. Email correspondence is retained only as long as needed to resolve your enquiry. Cookie consent preferences persist in your browser's local storage until cleared.
9. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights:
- Access: Request information about data we hold.
- Erasure: Request deletion of data we hold.
- Object: Object to data processing for advertising or analytics.
- Withdraw Consent: Withdraw cookie consent by clearing your browser's local storage and revisiting the site.
EU / EEA Residents (GDPR)
If you are in the EEA, the legal basis for analytics and advertising cookies is your consent, provided through our cookie banner. You may withdraw consent at any time.
California Residents (CCPA)
AutoUML does not sell personal information. To exercise your CCPA rights, contact us at info@autouml.com.
10. Children's Privacy
AutoUML is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us at info@autouml.com and we will promptly delete it.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last Updated” date above. Continued use of AutoUML after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
